Know more about Lidar

Lidar is a sensor that measures the distance to a surface by illuminating with laser light and measuring reflected pulses with appropriate data acquisition electronics. To form an image, multiple beams of light can be rotated with the corresponding receiver and data acquisition circuitry, so generating the point cloud data.  Alternatively single beam can be swept across the scene at very high speed.

CORAL Lidar

A Highly accurate 2D Lidar for surveying and mapping

Using a fibre laser with 3.6mm dia beam with 0.77mrad divergence to achieve range resolution of <3mm(rms).  With rotation speed of up to 100rev/sec and 800k samples per sec.

The fibre laser provides a very high definition image where other Lidar on the market blur small features

Coral Lidar Features

Coral 3D Mobile Lidar

Coral 3D is a handheld measurement sensor generating data to form 3D point clouds. It has forward and backward facing fisheye cameras, and a mount for a phone running a viewing and configuration app. Coral uses a fibre laser provides a high-quality collimated beam that enables the sensors to map more intricate features.

Features Range precision(rms):

Coral 3D Tripod Lidar

Coral 3D is designed for mounting on a Tripod or Drone on which it slowly rotates 360° around the vertical. Coral is a precision mapping sensor capturing 3D points every second. Variants can be configured for ranges from 0.7m to 350m with mirror rotation speed typically at 100rps but that can be configured from 25 to 200rps Coral uses a fibre laser to provide a high-quality collimated beam that enables the sensors to map more intricate features in the scene. It includes forward and backward facking fish eye cameras.

Features Range precision(rms):

WHO WE ARE

We are a highly-skilled group of entrepreneurial engineers, we have worked across diverse markets ranging from marine positioning to factory automation and people tracking. Our common expertise is applying electronic technology to determine the location of things and people through sensing the surroundings.

We have successfully devised, produced, and supplied high-quality solutions to companies large and small, including standard products and bespoke variations for specific customer requirements.

Our extensive experience helps us to understand customer requirements and work with them to ensure goals are met in a timely and cost-effective manner. We have developed sensing products for the automotive, forklift truck, and marine markets. With our expertise and our network of consultants and suppliers in lasers, optics, high-speed electronics, and software our small team has proved that they can rapidly design new get them into the market.

IAN BUEHRING
Managing Director

IAN BUEHRING

Ian co-founder of this Organization with the aim of bringing novel 3D electro-optical sensing solutions to a wide range of industries. Ian originally carried out his Ph.D. research in the early days of wind turbines for power generation which nowadays are making a significant contribution to our electricity needs.

For much of his career, he has worked in the field of optical and laser measurement sensors for a variety of different applications. These include ultra-high precision optical metrology for the automotive industry and semi-conductor industries, laser navigation sensors for AGVs and vessel position sensing in the marine sector.

Ian is a multi-disciplinary engineer and is the primary inventor on several patents in the field of electro-optics and laser metrology.

He has worked at a technical and director level in the Guidance group of companies, two of which have been successfully sold to larger groups. An exit after the most recent sale led to the opportunity to set up Red Sensors.

JOHN POTTER
Business Development Director

JOHN POTTER

John has a track record of successfully developing a series of technology companies over 25 years.

He started the Guidance group, initially working in the robot vehicle market. John then identified a potential opportunity to supply laser position reference sensors into the marine market.  This opportunity led to the development of Guidance Marine, which grew to a company with over 100 employees, and offices in the UK, USA, and Singapore.

Once the marine business was established, John moved to a new group company Guidance Monitoring, working in the Offender Monitoring market. Guidance Monitoring’s product was bespoke body-worn tracking devices used to report an offender’s compliance to court-imposed restrictions.  Applications included the safeguard of survivors of domestic abuse through home detention and tracking.

Having sold Guidance Monitoring to G4S, John then worked as Chief Technology Officer in G4S from 2012 to 2017. This role included the commercial and technical directorship of the national French Offender Monitoring contract which was successfully renewed before he left in 2017 after co-founding Red Sensors.

DAVE BARNETT
DAVE BARNETT
Technical Director

DAVE BARNETT

Dave has a Ph.D. in Optical Sensor Modelling, followed by over 16 years of direct engineering experience. Extensive knowledge of sensor data fusion, from mathematical algorithm development and sensor model building in Matlab and other offline tools to implementation on embedded platforms, to hardware testing and database design.

He has been instrumental in leading a number of optical and other sensor projects.

For the past fifteen years, the focus of these projects has been navigation and sensing, primarily for autonomy.

Dave has successfully led project teams of engineers (software, mechanical and electronic) to identify customers’ needs, developing and implementing practical engineering solutions.

Dave brings a wealth of experience to this Sensors company and is leading on the sensor modelling and interfacing activity.

OUR NEWS

we won innovate UK award for its novel low cost, high performance, Precision Laser and 3D LiDAR solution

Innovate UK

Innovate UK – Emerging and Enabling Technologies Round 1 – Winner

The lack of a reliable low-cost Precision Laser and  3D Lidar with 360° scanning capabilities, has restricted the widespread adoption of this critical 3D mapping and tracking technology.

The Innovate UK Award recognizes our winning design which provides a solution to the challenges facing the sensor industry by providing a low cost, reliable, 360° real-time multi-beam scanning solution for use in multiple markets.
